Fashion Artist

Seb Black (he/him) is a fashion artist and illustrator specialising in highly expressive, gestural artwork that captures the velocity and fluid movement of the runway. He uses charcoal, inks, acrylics, and soft pastels to explore subverted silhouettes, avant-garde menswear, and gender-fluid tailoring across commercial campaigns and projects, live luxury events, and fine art exhibitions.

Exhibitions

Seb has exhibited his work nationally in Victoria and Toronto, Canada, highlights including the Ministry of Casual Living (including his solo show ‘Never Mind, Darling’), fifty fifty arts collective, Sweet Pea Gallery, and Northern Contemporary Gallery, and internationally with FIDA Worldwide. His exhibited work often focuses on queer themes and lifestyles.

In his earlier curatorial work with museums and galleries, including the Design Museum, London, UK as part of the Curatorial Department, he has worked with brands such as Hussein Chalayan, V&A, Paul Smith, Beefeater Gin, Viktor & Rolf, and Formula 1.

Full Bio

Seb Black is a professional luxury fashion artist and live event illustrator living in Victoria and Vancouver, BC, Canada, and previously in London, UK. His confident, expressive sketch style is perfect for upscale live event fashion illustration, fashion  runway shows, campaigns, and editorial work. Fashion runway movement inspires all of his work from fashion to beauty to lifestyle. He loves bold lines, vibrant colours, and how fashion makes the wearer feel. In 2024, he was a FIDA Worldwide’s 9th Fashion Illustration Awards Finalist, receiving a Commendation with Special Mention. He especially enjoys illustrating menswear and gender-diverse / fluid fashion.

He’s recently worked with the British Fashion Council for London Fashion Week, Brunello Cucinelli, Burberry, Perrier, and more. Seb creates beautiful fashion illustrations and portraits for luxury fashion and live events, including runway shows and brand activations. He is based in Vancouver and available for national and international travel to illustrate live events and for campaigns.

In his earlier work with museums and galleries, including the Design Museum, London, UK as part of the Curatorial Department, he has worked with brands such as Hussein Chalayan, V&A, Paul Smith, Beefeater Gin, Viktor & Rolf, and Formula 1.

He has lectured to M.A. Curating Contemporary Design students at the University of Kingston, London.
