Reimagining runway narratives through a dramatic, cinematic lens.

CASE STUDY: Valentino “Antibiblioteca” Campaign Concept

01 / THE CONCEPT: “Villain Teen”

This speculative fashion animation campaign explores Alessandro Michele’s collection for Valentino, focusing on the “Villain Teen” hat. The designer noted the Villain Teen concept as an opportunity for playful transgression through beauty, a twist on the brand’s name, and his own rebellious nature. Elegance meets a street-style aesthetic.

The project goal was to translate the raw, subversive energy of the runway into a high-impact, short-form digital asset suitable for modern luxury campaigns, social channels, and editorial headers.

02 / THE ARTISTIC APPROACH

To capture the rebellious texture of the collection's "Villain Teen" embroidered cap, the artwork focuses on heavy textural contrast. The piece intentionally has loose, uninhibited mark-making to evoke an editorial atmosphere that photography alone cannot replicate for a hand-crafted feel. Visual research and experimentation were conducted to decide on which mediums would be best suited for this project, scale, and feeling. The idea was to show a moving male figure looking down and ending with a smile when he looks up to add to the narrative: who is he and why is he a villain teen?

  • Analog Mediums: Charcoal, acrylic paint markers, alcohol markers, and wax oil pastels.

  • Surface: Mixed media on 8x10” paper.

03 / THE ANIMATION PROCESS

True luxury requires time and craftsmanship. To bring the tactile qualities of the paper and charcoal to life, the loop was built entirely by hand using traditional, frame-by-frame methodology.

  1. Sequence Drawing: 30 individual, chronological illustrations were drawn by hand initially in charcoal emphasizing line before colour and colour blocking was added, the sketches scanned, and each image separately edited (note: no AI use).

  2. Digital Compilation: The physical drawings were sequentially and digitized into a seamless, 4-second animated loop optimized for high-definition digital screens.

  3. The "Boiling" Effect: The constant frame-by-frame line jitter was created through the organic compilation of the sequence of 30 sketches, giving the textured illustrations living, breathing movement.

04 / THE FINAL MOTION ASSET

The resulting loop bridges the gap between traditional fine art and digital fashion media. The animation delivers a bespoke, hand-crafted aesthetic with a sharp, contemporary feel.
